Summer sangria recipes provide an excellent way to showcase the ripe fruit available when the weather gets warm. From sangrias keeping classic ingredients like red wine and citrus to sour options melding sangria with other traditional cocktails, these recipes show creative new takes on the drink!
One of the best aspects of sangria is the adaptability of the recipes. If a wine option doesn’t match your taste, substitute it for another! Check out these three refreshing options for inspiration:
Watermelon Sangria
This is one of our favourite sangria recipes for the summer! Made with fresh watermelon, oranges, and limes, it’s a refreshing tasty cocktail to serve family and friends.
We prefer using the Moscato wine to make it a touch sweeter without having to add any syrup. Then mixed in vodka, triple sec, seedless watermelon, sliced lime, oranges, and a fruit juice of your choice in a large pitcher and stir to combine.
Generally, you want to make sure you can let the sangria sit for 4 to 8 hours before drinking. This makes sure that all the flavours can mix. If you can make it the day before it’s even better! Just let it sit in the fridge until you’re ready to serve.
Strawberry Mango Sangria
A Strawberry Mango Sangria is the perfect patio drink for warm summer nights and this particular recipe is a healthier spin on one of everybody’s favourite summer drinks. This recipe for mango sangria is the perfect summer drink. It has everything you love about traditional sangria – fruit, wine, and rum – but with a strawberry twist!
The recipe is easy to prepare for any guests that stop by during your backyard BBQ or evening picnics. All you need is a bottle of sweet white wine, 1 cup of mango juice, 1 cup of coconut rum, 1 ripe mango, and 2 cups of strawberries.
Again, you want to make sure you can let the sangria sit for 4 to 8 hours preferably in the refrigerator before drinking. This makes sure that all the flavours can mix.
Watermelon Peach White Wine Summer Sangria
When I think sangria, my mind instantly jumps to red wine infused with citrus, but it’s time to give this beverage a summer makeover, and peach sangria it is! Packed full of summer fruits like mango, melon, peaches, citrus, mint…and a splash of tequila for good measure!
What you’ll need to make sangria, summer-style: mango, watermelon, peach, lemon, lime, white wine – This is the key ingredient to the watermelon sangria. Silver Tequila – we recommend adding just enough to give it a little punch. Honey – You can’t totally leave it out if you want, but we like the little bit of added sweetness it provides. And last but not least, carbonated water – just a splash goes a long way.
Begin by adding mint, tequila, and honey to the pitcher. Then toss in the fruit and wine. Give it a stir and chill in the fridge. You can cool it for 4-24 hours, so the flavours have time to mix well. Add some club soda when ready to serve.
Pro Tip: please, please, please don’t add ice. It will water down the sangria, and no one likes a watery cocktail (No one!) Instead, you can freeze a few cups of the fruit that you used and use those as makeshift ice cubes. They’ll keep your drink cold but won’t water it down. WIN!
These summer sangria recipes would add much-needed zest to your pool hours! Or make you feel all boujee as you’re sipping your drink with a side of watermelon salsa on your porch.
